Event Details

In a VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous) and post-Covid-19 world, leaders will be struggling constantly to balance two and more seemingly conflicting objectives; for example, short term survival / cost containment AND the need to invest in the future; engaging the workforce AND driving performance; collaboration AND competition.

Political leaders round the world faced the dilemma of acting too quickly in locking down and putting economies into tail spin or acting too slowly, risking wider transmission and lives.

Paradox management is a tool that leaders can use to engage and secure buy-in from opposing stakeholders. All parties can agree what Early Warning Signals look like if they were to over focus on one objective at the detriment of the other. They can explain the need to adjust actions more clearly to their people.

Learning outcomes : To enable Leaders to

  • Differentiate problems from paradoxes
  • Map paradoxes
  • Identify Early Warning Signals
  • Creatively and continuously generate ideas to balance and achieve BOTH objectives
